History
By a decision of the People's Health Council of the People's Republic of Macedonia in February 1952, a special children's hospital for pulmonary diseases was established as a sanatorium for paediatric tuberculosis. This hospital started its work on 02.06.1952, organized in the old adapted buildings of the former maternity hospital.
After the earthquake in 1963, with the help of the Governments and humanitarian organizations of Norway and Sweden, as a gift to Skopje, a new modern hospital of assembly pavilion type with 5,000m ² covered area was built on the slopes of Mount Vodno, composed of 4 basic construction units (wooden construction), all functionally connected in one complex and with a capacity of 200 beds.
The new hospital began operations on 25.12.1965. The first director of this Klinikaon and its founder was Dr. Klimentije Milosevic.
The decrease in the rate of tuberculosis in Macedonia was the reason for the development of other professional and scientific activities — the beginning of a new orientation towards acute and chronic lung diseases in children. The hospital developed and expanded its activities with the strong support of professional staff. In 1970, for the first time in Macedonia, a Cabinet for Bronchology and a Cabinet for Examination of Lung Function in Children were established.
With the arrival of Prof. Dr. Dusan Teodosievski as director, the Klinikaon began the transformation into a modern hospital for all lung diseases in children, with a dominant engagement in the diagnosis and treatment of acute, recurrent and chronic pneumopathies.
In May 1972, the hospital became a teaching base of the Medical Faculty in Skopje, University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius" — Skopje.
In 1974, the hospital was registered in Pediatric Pneumophthysiology as part of the City General Hospital — Skopje. In the same year, the first pediatric intensive care unit in Macedonia was established.
In 1979, the Assembly of the City of Skopje awarded the "13 November" award for special contribution to pediatric health care.
In September 1992, by a decision of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Macedonia, child pneumophthysiology was re-registered as an Clinic for Lung Diseases in Children. It was also the time of celebrating 40 years since the beginning of the Klinikaon's work.
In accordance with the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia (26.12.2005), with the transformation of the City General Hospital, the Klinikaon was promoted in the Phi Clinic for Lung Diseases in Children — Kozle, Skopje.
With the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia in 2012, the construction of a new, modern hospital building began. On 30.12.2015, the new building of the Phi Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases in Children "Kozle" was officially put into operation.
By Decision of 24.10.2023, adopted by the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, the Phi University Clinic for Respiratory Diseases in Children "Kozle" — Skopje was established as a legal follower of the Clinic.
After the establishment of the new legal entity, the Clinic adopted the acts: Statute (17.06.2024), Rulebook on Systematization and Internal Organization (27.06.2025) and collective agreement (16.04.2025).
Today, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Katerina Boskovska and with the dedication of all employees, the Clinic is continuously working to promote its activity as an Klinikaon of particular importance for the protection of children's health in Skopje and the Republic of North Macedonia.
